Date(s): September 29th & 30th and October 6th & 7th, 2025
All session dates must be attended to be eligible for CE hours.
This virtual training is divided into four sessions for your convenience, and it will take place in real-time on the specified dates. To participate, you'll need a stable WIFI connection and either a laptop/computer or a smartphone. All participants are required to have their cameras turned on throughout the sessions. For an optimal learning experience, we strongly recommend engaging in a distraction-free environment.
Time:
8:15 AM – 8:30 AM: Log into virtual training. System check if needed.
8:30 AM – 1:00 PM: Class instruction
Login Access:
The link will be emailed at least 24-hours prior to each training date; and 15 minutes prior to the start for all late or same-day registrations. The email will come from an @cahf.org email address.
Description of Course:
This course covers the essential aspects and equips participants with the necessary tools to effectively fulfill the responsibilities of a Director of Nursing in a long-term facility. Whether you are new to the role, or bring decades of experience, this class is tailored to meet your needs and enhance your proficiency as a Director of Nursing.
Topics Include:
The Face of Skilled Nursing: Overview of SNF demographics and history.
The Role of the DON and Key Partners: Role of DON, NHA, MD, DSD, SSD, AC, RD/DDS, Charge Nurse, CNAs
Regulatory and Reimbursement Framework: Practice Acts/Standards of Care, T22, CFR, Licensure vs Certification, HSC, and other applicable codes and statutes, payment sources, RUGs, MDS, RAI, Level of Care.
DON Survival and other "Need to Knows": Time management, stress management, importance of Policies and Procedures, staffing requirements, budget, abuse requirement reporting, Disaster Preparedness, unusual occurrence reporting, and more.
Humans are Our Best Resource: HR practices, communication skills, honoring caregivers, leadership, building teams, consistent assignments, coaching, orientation, training, counseling, staff satisfaction, and more.
Residents are our Reason/Quality of Life: Putting yourself in the bed, person directed care, working with families, resident and family satisfaction, admission assessment, managing complaints, Ombudsman's role, admission orientation, residents' rights, and more.
End of Life: Determining capacity, obtaining consent, legally recognized decision makers, POLST, Hospice, advanced planning.
Resident Safety/Quality of Care: Risk management, best practices, nutrition, avoidable/unavoidable, documentation, assessment and plan of care, reporting of change of condition, SBAR, stand-up meetings.
Culture of Quality - How to of QAA: Why needed, define, data sources, QIO (HSAG), Advancing Excellence benchmarking, root cause analysis, role of the committee, QITs, data analysis, action planning, implementation, monitoring, how to protect on survey.
CE Hours (Requested):
NAB – 16; BRN – 16
Registrants must be individually logged in for all four days for the full session to receive CE hours and certificate.
This program has been submitted (but not yet approved) for Continuing Education for 16 total participant hours from NAB/NCERS. Contact member.servces@cahf.org for further information.

Materials ship date(s): Books will be shipped on September 22, 2025, for registrations placed by September 21st. For all registrations placed after that time, they will be sent on the first day of training.

BOARD REFUND POLICY
In order to receive a refund, cancellations for QCHF/CAHF classes must be made five (5) business days (Monday-Friday) prior to the beginning of the course. Cancellations must be in writing to cmerced@cahf.org. Transfer of registration is done ONLY if notified in writing prior to the start of the class.
QCHF reserves the rights to cancel this training at any time.
